Tidy snacks, like those found in the law school vending machines, that can be eaten quietly are allowed in the library. To prevent vermin infestation, please take any wrappers and/or crumbs out of the library to the trash can in the lobby. If you are eating a meal like pizza, salad, soup, or sandwiches, etc., please use the student commons/cafe. Library staff are the sole arbiters of acceptable snacks.
Non-alcoholic beverages are allowed in the Library. The beverages must be in a covered container.
Generally, cell phone conversations are NOT permitted in the Law Library. However, library patrons may engage in brief, quiet cell phone conversations in the the first floor and basement copy rooms. Please set your phone to vibrate.
Smartphone users are encouraged to utilize their cell phones to learn more about library services and collections by scanning the various smart tags located throughout the law library. For more information, please visit our Smartphone Tag Project website.
Patrons are expected to be reasonably quiet. Group study rooms are available for students who need to study together, conduct extended conversations, etc. [See Group Study Rooms policy.]
Library users are expected to first ask any person disturbing them to refrain. If the behavior doesn't stop, the incident should be reported to the Reference Desk (if open) or the Circulation Desk. The Reference/Circulation staffer will warn the person that continued complaints will result in a call to Campus Security. After the initial warning, patrons who continue to cause a disturbance will be asked to leave the Law Library or face removal by Campus Security.
We request that all library patrons reshelve the books they have used. If you are uncertain where to shelve a book, please leave it on one of the reshelving carts located throughout the library. If you need assistance, please ask.
Group Study Rooms are to be used by two or more individuals needing to engage in quiet conversation.
When finished using the room, groups are asked to erase the blackboards, close open windows, throw away their trash, and straighten the chairs.
Bicycles and other similar transportation devices that can be locked on the outdoor bike racks are not allowed in the law library. However, library patrons may bring their skateboards into the library if they can be neatly stowed while using the library. The library will not keep vehicles at the Circulation Desk nor be responsible for their security. Library staff may ask patrons to remove any vehicle causing disruption in the library.
The law library follows the law school policy in allowing only service animals in the building.
On the library bulletin boards, patrons can find information about equipment, policies, and other library and technology items. Only law library personnel may post items to these boards. Other items will be removed.
